JPS Engages on Identification, Registration and Support to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)

We have been engaged on the identification, registration, needs assessment, legal assistance, counseling, re-establishment of destroyed or misplaced identification documents, and case management with IDPs.

A database has been established for this process, and so far, we have registered over 10,500IDPs, with a good number of them coming from areas most affected in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon like Momo, Boyo, Ngoketunjia, Menchum, Bui, Nkambe, Mezam, Lebialem, Manyu, Meme, Ndian, Fako, Meme, etc., and are mostly made up of women, children and young girls, with a high prevalence rate of pregnancy. Also amongst these IDPs are a good number of elderly persons, orphans as a result of the crisis/war, and Persons with impairments and other health challenges.

Based on the premise that during violent conflict/war, women, children and girls are mostly affected, we organized workshops with over 100 Female IDPs from Boyo and Momo Divisions on Gender Based Violence (GBV) in times of Conflict on the 26th of February and the 21st of June 2019 respectively. During these sessions, the women and girls were drilled on what GBV is all about; its forms, types, consequences and settings within which it is most common. Added to these, participants were also equipped with knowledge on the available services and support to GBV Survivors, and they also acquainted themselves with GBV Safety Planning Tools and the Legal Implications of this phenomenon.
