Promoting and Enforcing the Respect of Human Rights in Prisons in the Ecclesiastical Province of Bamenda  (2014 – 2016)

Brief Discription:

This project is implemented by a network known as the Bamenda Ecclesiastical Provincial Prison Apostolate Network (BEPPAN) made up of the Justice and Peace Commissions of the Archdiocese of Bamenda, the Dioceses of Kumbo, Mamfe and Buea. 

It has five specific objectives;

1) To enhance Knowledge and respect for human rights in prisons by facilitating access to justice and observance of the standard minimum care for inmates,

2) To render excellent services and become a reference point to stakeholders at all levels.

3) To reconcile 200 inmates with their families in 13 prisons within the Bamenda Ecclesiastical Province by the end of the second year of project implementation,

4) To constitute a referral data bank of inmates in the Ecclesiastical Province of Bamenda which will further be used to lobby for wider systematic change?

5) To facilitate the reintegration of inmates through skills development programmes leading to income generation potentials for inmates.

The Justice and Peace Service (JPS) of the Archdiocese of Bamenda joined the international community to celebrate the International Human Rights Day 2015 with inmates and staff of some prisons within the Archdiocese under the theme; “Our Rights, Our Freedoms Always”.

Training Of Inmates In Skills Development

Specific objective 5 of the above mentioned project states; ‘reintegration of inmates is improved through acquisition of skills development leading to income generating activities.’ The main activity under this objective is to engage inmates in skills development, thereby preparing them for successful reintegration into the society after serving their prison terms.
