The Link Between the Diocese of Portsmouth and the Archdiocese of Bamenda.
In 1974 a formal twinning of the Diocese of Portsmouth and the Archdioceses of Bamenda was established. Since then, both dioceses have been collaborating through exchange visits and the execution of projects. The Justice and Peace Commission (JPC) of the Archdiocese of Bamenda has benefited from projects funded in the Archdiocese of Bamenda by the Portsmouth Diocese with funds coming from the Church, donations from Christians, Trust, and people of good will in the Diocese of Portsmouth.
Within the period 2012 - 2013, the Diocese of Portsmouth sponsored a JPC project titled Promoting Human Rights and Conflict Management by supporting the training of support staff or volunteers and also supporting victims of Trafficking in Persons (TIP)in the Archdiocese Bamenda. In 2014, the JPC developed and submitted another project proposal titled Enhancing the Capacities of Justice and Peace workers in the Archdiocese of Bamenda. This project which has been funded, will go a long way to contribute to a more just and peaceful people in the Archdiocese of Bamenda in particular, and the society as a whole.
Still in 2014, the Ruby Jubilee Celebration of the link between the two dioceses was celebrated in both dioceses with the JPC taking part in the celebration at the level of Bamenda and Portsmouth. At the end of the celebration, the Archbishop of Bamenda, His Grace Cornelius FontemEsua formed a Bamenda Portsmouth Committee in the Archdiocese of Bamenda with the Justice and Peace Office (the Coordinator) acting as Projects Officer of this committee.
