Did you hear of nine women being killed in Cameroon between eight days in August 2026? That was not just statistics to us-that was nine families broken and communities wounded.
It is in this light that the Justice and Peace Service (JPS) of the Archdiocese of Bamenda joined Civil Society Organizations, women, men and young persons of goodwill for the March Against Femicide today in Bamenda. The peaceful march which took place from City Chemist and T-Junction to the Commercial Avenue Grandstand was a collective outcry against the growing tide of gender-based killings in the country. Our presence as JPS Bamenda is a reminder that the Church cannot be silent when women are killed for being women.
Peace is not possible where women are not safe in their own homes and communities!
Every woman has a right to life, dignity and security!
Femicide is a grave violation of that right and a wound to the peace we all seek to build!
We walked today to:
- Mourn the lives of women lost to violence;
- Demand justice and accountability for perpetrators;
- Educate community members on the prevention of femicide and gender-based violence
- Advocate for strong national laws with effective implementation on femicide.
The Justice and Peace Service remains committed to working with other stakeholders to challenge harmful norms, support survivors, and strengthen systems that protect women and girls.
Today, we marched. Tomorrow, we continue the work!
